LE CHÂTEAU DE MAMÉ
"GRANNY'S CASTLE"

Welcome to the Mélix family home where Émilienne and André Mélix raised their three children: Andrée, Annie and Aimé.

The lodge was named "Granny's Castle" (Le Château de Mamé) by the Mélix's grand-son who lives in Quebec, Mathieu, just before he turned two.  When he referred to his grandparents' house in France, he would say "Granny's Castle" because it stook just beyond the walls of the feudal castle of Puissalicon.

The lodge is located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, in Southern France.

Puissalicon is 760 km south of Paris and 30km from the Mediterranean sea.

The nearest airports are in Montpellier (71km) and Toulouse (200km) while the closest train station is located in Béziers (15km).

Puissalicon is a beautiful circular village at the base of a feudal castle dating back to the 11th century and houses a gothic church  that was erected in 1337.  Approximately one  kilometre from the village, in the middle of the cemetery, stands a Romanesque tower , a vestige of the Saint-Étienne de Pezan monastery, stands up.  This structure is on the list of French Historic Monuments.

Vineyards, the main economic activity in the Puissalicon region, produce first-class wines.

Granny's Castle is a terraced house which can accommodate up to six guests.  To view additional pictures of the interior of the lodge, you are invited to peruse the "Visite du gîte" web page.

Dear Elizabeth,

We enjoyed our residence in this Gite.  The owners had given a great deal of thought to the setting up of the Gite and to the equipment.

It was comfortable regardless of the cold weather.  The temperature was quite comfortable because of the excellent central heating.

We would like you to pass on our thanks fot the local region wines that they left for us.  The Chardonnay Haute Vallée de L'Orb impressed us greatly.

The red wines La Croix d'Austeran Bordeaux and Chateau de Canterran 1996 et 1988 which we purchased confirmed our opinion of French wines.
